B.Tech is a four-year undergraduate engineering degree and still the largest single stream in Indian higher education. You pick a branch at admission — Computer Science, IT, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical or Civil being the most common — and that choice shapes your first job more than most students expect.
Admission runs on entrance rank. JEE Main opens NITs, IIITs and GFTIs plus most private colleges; West Bengal students should also write WBJEE, where the state quota often reaches a better college for the same effort. A handful of private universities admit on Class 12 marks or their own test.
